Working in the art and design industry:
Interior designer
An interior designer has the role of designing the interior (inside) of a home, office or building. They will decide on materials and colours for the lay out of the inside of the room or house. They can be employed to design for a family home, the family will give them basic ideas on what they desire their home to be like. The designer will then take these ideas and develop them to create a design for the interior of the house.
An interior designer can also be employed to design for commercial spaces. They will then focus mainly on usability. For example, if they were designing for a shop front, they would have to keep in mind that the space had to be usable as a shop, which would, potentially, have members of the public viewing and purchasing things from.
Other places interior designers can be employed to design for could be; museums, exhibitions and events.
Decorative design;
Decorative design focuses more on the design being appropriate for the room, rather than being appropriate for the purpose of the room.
Structural design;
Good structural design revolves around designing specifically for the activity the room or house will be used for. It uses simplicity, and appropriate material for the room’s purpose.
